Hey, nice to meet you! We’re Povi (operated by Politix Inc., d/b/a Povi). We asked our lawyers for a Privacy Policy, and it came back way longer and scarier-looking than we thought it would be. So we made them go back and rewrite it in plain English so you can actually read it. If you’re here, you must really care about privacy. Good news, we do too! We never sell your personal data, and advertisers can never take it off Povi, especially not your politics. Details below:
At Povi (operated by Politix Inc., d/b/a Povi, "Povi", "Povi.tv", "we," "us," and "our"), your trust matters deeply to us and we are committed to respecting and protecting your privacy through compliance with this Privacy Policy (this "Policy"). This policy is written in plain English as much as possible so you can quickly understand what we collect, why, and how we protect it.
This Policy describes how we collect, use, and share personal information of consumer users of Povi’s mobile apps, websites, content, products, and any related services (together, the "Services").
This Policy applies to personal information that we collect:
This Policy does not apply to information collected by:
Please read this policy carefully to understand how we will treat your information. If you do not agree with this policy, your choice is not to use THE SERVICES. By accessing or using ANY OF THE SERVICES, you agree to this policy. This policy may change from time to time (see "Changes to This Policy" below). Your continued use of ANY OF THE SERVICES after we make changes to this policy is deemed to be acceptance of those changes, so please check back here periodically for updates. One note on scope: where this Policy describes features, moderation, appeals, or content-removal procedures, those are governed by our Terms of Use, Community Guidelines, or the applicable Creator Agreement; this Policy governs how we handle personal information.
We aim to collect only what we need to run Povi safely and well.
You can sign in with Google or Apple, or link other social accounts (X, Facebook, Discord, etc.). Those services will share basic information with us (usually your name, email, and profile picture) so we can create or connect your Povi account. We request only basic profile information. You can always review what those services share by checking their own privacy settings.
Payments are handled by Stripe. The payment form you see on Povi is Stripe’s, embedded in our pages. Your card number goes from your browser directly to Stripe and never touches our servers. We see transaction records (things like amount, date, plan, status, and the card’s brand and last four digits), never your full card number. We also don’t collect precise GPS location, and we don’t ask you for biometric, health, or religious information.
Creator onboarding and payouts run through Stripe, which collects your tax forms (e.g., W-9), government ID, and bank details directly, under Stripe’s own privacy policy. We don’t store those documents or your bank or card numbers. We receive confirmation-level and transaction-level information: your legal name, verification and payout status, tax-form status, and payout and transaction records. We also collect compliance information Creators are required to provide us (for example, FARA-related notices under the Creator Agreement) and screen against government sanctions lists as required by law.
On Povi, your political views can show up two ways: what you tell us (your optional political profile) and what your activity suggests (who you watch, follow, and subscribe to). We treat both as sensitive information. We use them only to run the features you actually use (discovery, matching, live conversations), to keep the platform safe, and for the security, legal-compliance, and de-identification purposes described in this Policy. We never sell them, and no advertiser or ad partner may obtain them or use them for their own purposes (see Section 3). Because our uses are limited to the purposes described in this Policy, there’s no separate "limit use" request you need to make.
Povi is a public discussion platform. Your streams, comments, chat messages, HeroChats, HeroTakes, Reacts, clips, profile, follows, and channel activity are visible to other users (including Guests without accounts) and can be watched, quoted, clipped, and discussed. On a political platform, what you say and engage with publicly will often reveal your political views, so share accordingly. Creators’ trading-position disclosures required by our Community Guidelines are public content by design.
We never sell your personal information, and we never "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising (as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act and similar state laws). The only data products we may commercialize are de-identified and aggregated (data that can’t be linked back to you) as described below.
Our routine sharing is with carefully selected service providers who help us run Povi. All of them are bound by data processing agreements that require them to protect your data and use it only to provide services to us.
Service providers we work with fall into these categories:
Legal, safety, and rights processes: we may disclose information (i) in response to valid legal process or as otherwise required by law, including mandatory reports of child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and law enforcement; (ii) when we believe in good faith it’s necessary to prevent imminent harm to someone; (iii) to enforce our terms and protect Povi’s and our users’ rights and safety; and (iv) as part of intellectual-property processes such as the DMCA (if you file a DMCA counter-notice, the law requires your name and contact information be provided to the claimant). We don’t hand over your identity just because someone claims your content wronged them — outside the DMCA process, identity disclosures to rights claimants require valid legal process. And if you report someone, we don’t share your identity with them; reporter information is disclosed only under valid legal process or as required by law.
Business transfer (such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets): user information may be transferred as part of that transaction. Any personal data transferred will remain subject to protections consistent with this Privacy Policy. Sensitive personal information, including political data, will not be used for new or materially different purposes without notice and, where required by law, your consent.
With your consent: only if you explicitly approve
We never sell your personal information. Your political profile is never provided to advertisers or ad partners, and no ad partner may use any data from Povi to profile you, target you anywhere outside Povi, or add you to any list. Serving and measuring ads does require sharing limited technical data (like device information and the page or stream where an ad appears) with the partners that deliver ads for us; they act as our service providers and may use that data only to do that job for us, and nothing else.
We create de-identified, aggregated, statistical, and derived data and insights from content and activity on Povi — measures of activity, engagement, topics, sentiment, and trends. We use these to run and improve Povi, and we may license or commercialize them, including with third parties. Hard limits apply, mirroring our Terms of Use and Creator Agreements: this data is never publicly attributed to you; it is never provided to third parties (other than our service providers) in a form that identifies you or could reasonably be linked to you or your account; and your content itself is not part of these data products. We commit to maintaining de-identified data in de-identified form and not attempting to re-identify it (except to confirm our de-identification works), we contractually require anyone who receives it to commit to the same, and we use technical safeguards, such as minimum-audience thresholds, so statistics about small groups can’t be traced back to individuals.
When you follow, subscribe to, or chat in a channel, that channel’s Creator can see your username, profile picture, and subscription status, term, and tier, along with engagement information — including a community view, visible only to the Creator, highlighting the channel’s top supporters and most active participants. Moderators get chat-moderation tools; they don’t see subscriber lists. Creators may use information about you only in connection with their activities on Povi and in compliance with applicable privacy laws — their agreements with us require this. Keep in mind that subscribing to or engaging with a channel tells that Creator something about your interests.
Povi doesn’t currently offer private messaging. If we introduce it: private messages are not public, we don’t use them for advertising, and no one at Povi reads them proactively. Our trust and safety personnel may access a private message only when a participant reports it, during a security or abuse investigation, through automated detection of child sexual abuse material, or under valid legal process. Private messages are kept while your account is active and deleted with it.
We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember preferences. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.
We use third-party analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, to understand how the platform is used, identify technical issues, and improve features. These tools receive information about usage and interactions, which may be associated with a persistent user identifier.
These providers act solely as service providers processing data on our behalf and may not use it for their own advertising or profiling purposes.
Analytics data is used to measure performance, understand aggregate trends, and support platform operations. Povi may also use data internally, including usage and engagement information, to develop, personalize, and improve features in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Our Services do not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals.
We keep data only as long as needed:
After you delete your account: we delete or fully de-identify your personal data within 30 days, except where we’re legally required to keep it (see the periods above) or need it for fraud prevention, security, or dispute resolution. Residual copies may persist past that window in backups and in the content-delivery and decentralized streaming and storage infrastructure our service providers operate for us. When content is deleted, we stop serving it and delete or unpin it from the systems we control or contract with. These networks are public by design, so copies independent third parties retained while the content was public are outside our control, like any copy someone downloaded or reposted. Separately, under the licenses in our Terms of Use and Creator Agreements, we may retain content, and data derived from it, to train, test, and improve our software, algorithms, and models, including after content is removed from public view and after an account is deleted (for Creators, this is the Technology Development License in the Creator Agreement). Retained content is never publicly displayed or distributed. This retention is subject to applicable law: where you have a verified deletion right under an applicable privacy law, we honor it as that law requires. And deletion doesn’t undo improvements already made to our models, or reach de-identified data (that data is no longer connected to you).
You can request deletion at any time (see "Your Rights" below).
The descriptions in this Policy of the personal information we collect, our purposes for collecting it, and the categories of recipients we share it with cover our practices during the 12 months preceding the Effective Date above, as well as our current practices.
For all users, and especially California residents under the CCPA/CPRA, you have the right to:
We don’t sell or share personal information, so there’s no sale to opt out of and no "Do Not Sell or Share" link is required. We use sensitive information (like your political profile) only for the purposes this Policy describes, so no separate "limit use" request is needed — and you can edit or clear your political profile in settings at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@povi.tv from the email address on your account (that’s how we verify it’s you; we may ask for additional confirmation if needed). An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with your signed permission; we will ask the agent to provide that signed permission, and we may also contact you directly to verify your identity and confirm you authorized the request. We respond within 45 days; if a request is complex, we may take up to 45 more days and will tell you. If we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision — a different reviewer will take a second look and respond within 45 days.
Three kinds of removal, so you know which is which:
Povi has three tiers:
No one under 13 may use Povi, and no one under 16 may hold an account. If we learn we’ve collected personal information from a child under 13, or that an account holder is under 16 without required consent, we delete the information and close the account promptly. Content that endangers minors is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and to law enforcement.
Users outside the United States: Povi is operated from the United States, directed to a U.S. audience, and designed to meet U.S. privacy standards; your data is processed in the United States. If you access Povi from elsewhere, you do so on your own initiative, and the rights in Section 6 are available to you wherever you live. Creators must reside in the U.S.
We use industry-standard encryption, access controls, and periodic security reviews. No system is 100% secure, but we work hard to protect your data.
We may update this policy at any time. Material changes apply going forward, and we’ll give you at least 15 days’ advance notice by email or in-app notice before they take effect. Continuing to use Povi after changes means you accept the updates.
